Images I uploaded using the class came out with noisy backgrounds.
Instead of image backgrounds being pure white, a noise pattern was introduced.
There was a related PHP bug report here: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=45030
Apparently, the bug patch was applied to PHP 5.2.6.
I upgraded from PHP 5.1.6 to 5.2.16 and that seems to have fixed the noise issue.
